The Dreamgirls universe is in full effect!
Sheryl Lee Ralph taught Jennifer Hudson how to do the Dreamgirls two-step on the latest episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Hudson had the recent Emmy Award-winning actress on to talk about her star-making turn on Broadway's 'Dreamgirls' in 1981.
Ralph talked about how she remembers her time in the show vividly, including the time she, Loretta Devine and Deborah Burrell took pictures for the promo.
“I remember taking that picture and we were so happy because we knew we had a hit on our hands,” she said of the photo shown on the screen behind her. She also said she auditioned with Devine.
"I'll never forget my audition…I walked in there and I was walking behind Loretta Devine…and these women in the room--they were not singers, they were sangers, baby," she said.
“The building was literally levitating off of the concrete. That’s how wonderful they were. And then there was me…and they asked me to sing.”
Ralph said she was asked to sing “a song from church,” so she sang something that was familiar to her, but was unexpected by the casting directors.
"I sang Ave Maria. They were very quiet. I think they were thinking something more in the Baptist vein and they did not know that I was little Episcopalian girl," she said.
The interview ended with Hudson getting expert Dreamgirls dancing tips from Ralph herself, with Ralph telling her how proud she was of Hudson’s career.
