Update (August 30, 2021):  After expressing his racist undertones during a radio talk show, Patriots broadcaster Scott Zolak has issued an apology for his comments about Cam Newton. 

On Thursday, Zolak and his cohosts spoke candidly about the veteran quarterback and his performance on the field with the Patriots broadcaster saying that Newton should "turn off the rap music," as Blavity previously reported.

He later apologized and said that "Cam's nothing but class. Great guy," NBC Sports reported.

"I'm sorry for that comment. I didn't need to make that comment," he said. "I was trying to evaluate Cam through the process of his first couple throws, and I blamed music for being a distraction in his preparation in between a couple throws that he had. And I reference the genre of rap that was being played."

"That's something I know that's drawn attention for being racially insensitive," he continued.

Zolak added that he has "no clue what's going on in a player's head."

In addition to his public apology, he also said he had a chance to apologize to Newton, directly. 

Original (August 27, 2021): The New England Patriots broadcaster seems to think that listening to rap music is affecting Cam Newton's performance on the field.

Scott Zolak, who is the current broadcaster of the Patriots games and a former player of said team, found himself entangled with an unsubstantiated conspiracy that rap music somehow can affect a player's athletic ability, the New York Post reported.

“I’d turn off the rap music first of all,” Zolak said during a recording of the radio showThe Sports Hub in Boston. “Because I think it’s distracting for Cam here. Because in between every throw he’s dancing."

“He makes a throw and then [dances]. The music’s still cranking here, I know you can hear faintly in the background here,” he continued, adding that "he's here to work. And everything is attention to detail."

In an attempt to remind him that his ideology was absurd, a voice during the clip sternly checks Zolak, telling him "I think it's distracting for you."

Zolak compared Newton's performance to his teammate Mac Jones, who also enjoys listening to rap.

Newton referenced Jones' musical preference last month, saying, "You catch him in the locker room every time quoting some Future, some Baby."

Jones and Newton both play the position of quarterback and are competing to be named starter of the current NFL season. 

Other cohosts of the show pointed out that while Newton appears to enjoy his job, his dancing between drills is nothing new and that he will likely still be selected as the starting quarterback for the team. 

Jones was recently selected by the Patriots in the first-round draft pick in 2021, ESPN reported. Now, with just two weeks until the regular season, Patriots coach Bill Belichick has a decision to make between the two players. 

Fans, however, are concerned about Newton's future on the team as he was recently sidelined for a "misunderstanding" of the NFL's COVID-19 protocols, CBS Sports reported.

If Newton is selected as the starter, Zolack will certainly have to chalk up his rap conspiracy.
