Pharrell isn’t happy about President Donald Trump using his music for rallies, particularly hours after an egregious hate crime has taken place in the nation.
On Saturday, Pharrell's “Happy” was played at a rally hosted by Trump mere hours after a massacre in a Pittsburgh synagogue. Pharrell wasn’t having it and sent a cease-and-desist order barring the president from using any of his music at his events, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
“On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged 'nationalist,' you played his song 'Happy' to a crowd at a political event in Indiana. There was nothing 'happy' about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday, and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose," the music mogul's lawyer, Howard King, said in the order.
Pharrell also accused Trump of copyright and trademark infringement.
Several musicians have given Trump similar warnings regarding his use of their songs.
On October 11, Prince’s estate released a statement asking 45 to stop using the late artist’s music. The estate responded after the singer’s friend saw a video of “Purple Rain” playing at a rally, according to The Star Tribune.
"The Prince Estate has never given permission to President Trump or The White House to use Prince's songs and have requested that they cease all use immediately," the estate said.
