A Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 18-year-old is being charged in connection to the death of his twin brother, according to WPVI.

Suhail Gillard, a star football player and scholar, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest on Sunday in an apartment in the Overbrook Park neighborhood.

His brother, Fayaadh, was arrested on Monday and charged with murder, possession of an instrument of crime, unsworn falsification to authorities and obstructing justice.

Suhail was a running back at Mastery Charter North high school and had recently committed to West Virginia State University. He was a Philadelphia all-star and a three-time All-Public League football team player, according to WPVI. 

"He had an offer to go to college and there were other schools that were looking at him as well," football head coach John Davidson said.

Despite Fayaadh being charged in connection to the fatal shooting, police have not released additional details about what events led up to the incident.

Philly Voice reports the gun Fayaadh had "somehow went off."

Students at the high school walked to the area where they hold their graduation ceremonies and released balloons in Suhail's honor. He was expected to graduate in the spring of 2020.

The school's entrance has also been decorated with flowers and photos in memory of the fallen teen. 

Administrators said the promising athlete was "incredible in the classroom and in the community."

Social workers and support staff have been at the school to provide grief counseling to Suhail's peers and those who were close to him.

"It's been tragic. This is the first situation like this that we dealt with," said principal Chris Ziemba.

Coach Davidson said it's been difficult for his teammates. 

"[His teammates] are in disbelief," said Davidson. "They feel like it's a dream."
