According to Fox News LA, the shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the area of New Hampshire and 8th Street. Authorities responded to several calls in the neighborhood related to shots being fired. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, whose legal name is Latauriisha O’Brien, lying in a planter at an apartment building close by. He was pronounced dead on the scene, and additional details about what led to the drive-by remain undisclosed.
L.A.P.D. said O’Brien, 32, appeared to be walking with a friend when a dark-colored S.U.V. approached them, and the passenger unleashed at least a dozen shots fired at both men. Authorities said the victim’s friend ran away, uncertain if he fired back at the S.U.V. As police are still pursuing the gunman, they are also hoping to identify the friend who fled the scene.
Fox News reports the rapper’s family members shared he leaves behind three children: a 9-month-old baby boy, a 2-year-old son, and an 8-year-old daughter. He was also expecting another child on the way with his pregnant wife, who was on the phone with him at the time of the shooting,
O’Brien was from Inglewood and did not live in Koreatown. Investigators are still trying to figure out what he was doing in the area.
Known as Half Ounce, O’Brien was a local artist in the area that everyone seemed to know. He recently dropped a single, “GANGBANGIN,” in May and had another song, “Drop The Ball,” set to drop next week, as seen on his social media. Within the last few weeks, he is the third rapper fatally shot in Los Angeles, LA Times reports.
