It’s no secret that attending a PWI comes with the struggle of dealing with ill-informed and sometimes racist white peers. We’ve seen black students clap back and stand their ground with movements such as #ITooAmHarvard and #MizzouHungerStrike. The struggle is truly real, but what does it really mean to have to exist in these places on the daily? Kwynn Riley’s poem “PWI Ten Commandments” gets it right while highlighting the experience of the black woman at a PWI. By the end of it, you’ll be screaming “YAAAAAS” in solidarity, or maybe even looking into transferring to an HBCU.
