Some of y’all got some explaining to do, because I remember being clowned continuously for my love of Pokémon in middle school, high school AND college. Now here I am at 25 and everyone’s playing Pokémon Go, saying how cool Pokémon is. Allow me to add fuel to the fire and say that the Pokémon Company has started a new series of anime shorts, and they’re fire.

Titled Pokémon Generations, the shorts are based off the actual game. What exactly does that mean, you ask? It means they’ve amped up the action. It means the story is a bit more mature. It means you’ll actually be invested in the battles. As much as I love the cartoon we had growing up, after going back and watching the show on Netflix, I realized how corny it was.

In Generations, we don’t have Ash Ketchum, we have Red as our main character. The show also taps into other characters and their stories. The second short is all about Team Rocket Leader Giovanni, and adds depth to his role that wasn’t present in the games.

Only two episodes have aired, but those have made me excited for what’s to come from the YouTube shorts. Based on the trailer, it sounds like they’re going to go through multiple Pokémon regions. For now, check out the first episode of Pokémon Generations and let me know what you think in the comments section below!
