Emma Stone is a modern-day Frankenstein in the teaser for Poor Things, which also stars Mark Ruffalo, Jerrod Carmichael and Ramy Youssef.
Here's an official description of the Yorgos Lanthimos film:
From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
According to IndieWire, Poor Things is “based on Scottish author Alasdair Gray’s novel about a woman who drowns herself to escape her abusive husband and is resurrected with the brain of her unborn child.”
In addition to Emma Stone, the film stars:
Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael and Christopher Abbott.
Poor Things is written by The Great showrunner Tony McNamara. It is produced by Yorgos Lanthimos, Emma Stone, Ed Guiney, Ali Herting, Andrew Lowe, and Dave McCary, with Ildiko Kemeny, Kasia Malipan, and David Minkowski serving as co-producers.
