Rapper Huey, best known for his 2006 hit single “Pop, Lock and Drop It,” was shot and killed Thursday night in Missouri.
The 31-year-old suffered a fatal gunshot wound from an incident just before 11 p.m. in front of a home in Kinloch, Missouri, his hometown, reports Fox 2. Huey, born Lawrence Franks Jr., was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The home where the shooting occurred is owned by Huey’s dad, reports KMOV.
Another shooting victim from the same incident arrived at the Ferguson Police Department with a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital where he was treated for nonfatal injuries. The 21-year-old is expected to survive.
The Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is leading a homicide investigation into the incident and stated the case “remains very active at this time,” reports The Wrap.
Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the shooting.
Detectives say there may have been about 10 people in the area where the shooting occurred. Anyone who has any information on the case is asked to call the St. Louis County Police Department at (636) 529-8210.
Huey, who was originally signed to Jive Records, was scheduled to film a music video on Saturday, according to an Instagram post.
The “When I Hustle” rapper leaves behind a 13-year-old daughter, who he said he has an “unbreakable” bond with on Instagram.

Let’s all pour one out for Huey. Middle school dances wouldn’t have been what they were without all the preteens popping it, locking it, and dropping it. #RIP
