The revival of Porgy & Bess on Broadway whose run, which was originally scheduled to end on July 8, was extened to September 30 earlier this year, has now officially set an end date.
Porgy & Bess will now end its run on September 23 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre after 322 performances.
I still haven't had a chance to see it yet, but I plan to do so before it shuts down.
The musical has grossed $19.3 million to date, since previews began. It cost $8 million to produce on Broadway, so it's certainly done very well for its producers and the theater, and will continue to do well, with another month to go.
Audra McDonald won a Tony Award fr her performance. I have to wonder what she will do next, after Porgy & Bess ends its run.
I also wonder whether, with its stage revival success, might we see another filmed version of it eventually?
