Here’s a first-look (via poster) at an Algerian feature film project we first alerted you last summer, which Mike Tyson co-stars in.
According to Algerian newspaper l’Expressionz.com (can I just say how much I love that I can access any newspaper from almost anywhere in the world, on the web, even though they aren’t always in a language I understand)…
But according to Algerian newspaper l’Expressionz.com, comes what is being called the first Algerian martial arts film, from French director Jean-Marc Mineo, titled Algeria Forever.
It stars Algerian actors Ahmed Benaissa, Mourad Khan, and French actress Loris Pester, as well as French singer Lorie, and Algerian comedian Smaïn.
Mike Tyson also co-stars, although, it appears he plays himself.
Algeria Forever centers on a plot against modern-day Algeria, as supporters of the OAS, the French paramilitary organization that sought to keep Algeria under French rule, sets up base in Oran (a major city on the northwestern coast of Algeria), with plans to acquire all the necessary resources needed for an armed strike against the country and its people. But the group has to get through a secret agent, who happens to be a martial arts specialist, who will do whatever it takes to defend the country’s independence, as well as destroy this scheming organization.
Director Mineo says there’s no CGI work in this one, as they plan to rely almost entirely on real stunt work, as the actors have all been well-trained in martial arts and weapons handling.
He also insisted on not only casting Algerians, with his goal being to produce a feature film with international appeal; Although it is an all-Algerian production behind the scenes.
Mineo’s last film was a 2011 martial arts actioner titled Bangkok Revenge, which is available on home video here in the USA, so if you’d like to check out his previous work, you can. It’s also the only other feature film he’s directed. He’s an actor as well.
This Arabic | French | English-language film, which, according to the below new poster, is now titled Gates Of The Sun (with “Algeria Forever” seemingly a tagline), is produced by Zakaria Ramdane of Access V Production (which is based in Oran), promising 130 minutes on-screen greatness.
A 2014 theatrical release is planned. I expect it’ll travel, even if only because Mike Tyson is in it.
No trailer yet, but check out the first poster below, which comes courtesy of our friends at Twitch:
