President Trump called out Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Department of Justice for failing to investigate the Obama administration's role in the Russian election meddling scandal via Twitter, The Hill reports.
Question: If all of the Russian meddling took place during the Obama Administration, right up to January 20th, why aren’t they the subject of the investigation? Why didn’t Obama do something about the meddling? Why aren’t Dem crimes under investigation? Ask Jeff Sessions!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 21, 2018
This marks the second time this week the president referenced former president Obama in connection with Russia meddling. On President's Day, Trump blamed Obama for not do enough to stop Russian meddling in the 2016 election–the audacity!
The investigation has made headlines recently because of major breakthroughs. Blavity recently reported U.S Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who heads the investigation, charged 13 Russian nationals and three Russian organizations with willfully working to interfere in the election that brought Trump to power.
As of now, the special counsel obtained guilty pleas and cooperation from Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former campaign adviser George Papadopoulos, and it has been reported that Mueller hopes to interview the president himself as soon as possible.
