Here’s another animated re-imagining of Night of the Living Dead – George Romero’s 1968 independent black-and-white cult horror classic, which starred Duane Jones.

I say “another” because some of you may recall that last year saw the DVD release of something called Night of the Living Dead: Reanimated, also an animated homage to Romero’s film, put together by a group of 150 artists (photographers, puppeteers, illustrators, painters, etc) who were invited to animate scenes from the 1968 independent allegorical zombie classic, though with the original audio and soundtrack. The collective was with given no restrictions on style, media or process.

I never saw it; the preview just didn’t do anything for me. And I don’t think I’ll be bothering to see this new one either, if the below trailer is anything to go by, which looks more like an advert for a video game than a film I’d pay to watch. But good luck to the filmmaker though – Mr Zebediah De Soto, whose Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D moves the story to New York City, as a small group of individuals locked in an apartment fight for their lives in the face of a zombie attack. It looks like De Soto kept the black male lead character (played by Duane Jones in the original) intact.

Memo to anyone else who feels like “reimagining” Romero’s original… don’t bother.
