Michael Jackson’s son is reminding the world that his late father will “always be the King of Pop.” Prince Jackson came to his father’s defense after Rolling Stone recently bestowed the title on Harry Styles.

Jackson, who made his comments when he appeared on Good Morning Britain, said Styles is an amazing artist, but Michael earned the title in a time where it was more difficult to get such an honor.

“Harry Styles is an incredible artist. He’s got his own genre and he’s definitely an amazing artist.” Jackson told hosts Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins. “But, the ‘King of Pop’ was a moniker that really my dad earned in a time that the access to information and the access to popularity and fame wasn’t as easily accessible as it is today.”

Michael’s title, according to his son, is something that will never be taken away.

“With so many other social factors that you have to take into consideration at that time, I do feel that my father is the King of Pop, will always be the King of Pop, and it’s not something that you can ever take away, because we’ve just evolved so much as a society that those same factors will never be the same,” Jackson said.

Comparing his father’s career path to the careers of today’s artists, Jackson said it’s two completely different scenarios.

“When you look from where my father started to where he ended, versus where all these other people started to where they ended, it’s just night and day of a difference,” he said.

Michael died at age 50 in 2009 due to an accidental drug overdose, Yahoo News reports. The King of Pop also raised his daughter Paris, now 24, and his son Blanket, who is now 20.
