This week the Princess Grace Foundation-USA (PGF-USA) announced the winners of the 2012 Princess Grace Awards. The Awards for theater, dance and choreography, and film continue the legacy of Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco, who helped emerging artists pursue their artistic goals during her lifetime. This year's 25 Awards winners will travel to New York City to receive their Awards at the 30th Anniversary Princess Grace Awards Gala held on October 22.

A few familiar faces were among this year's winners, including S&A contributor Nijla Mu'min, who has won the Cary Grant Film Award. The graduate film scholarship will allow her to complete her short film Deluge, a drama exploring African Americans' relationships to water, set to be filmed in New Orleans.

Talibah Newman, whose short film Busted on Brigham Lane screened at ABFF's HBO Short Film Competition this year, has won a Graduate Film Honorarium. Busted on Brigham Lane will next screen at Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival on August 10th.

The Princess Grace Awards are chosen from among nominating schools and nonprofit organizations across the country.

PGF-USA, a public charity celebrating its 30th Anniversary, was formed after the 1982 death of Princess Grace and awards scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships to artists at the start of their careers. Since the Foundation's inception, more than 700 Awards have been given, totaling more than $9.5 million.
