Super film producer Will Packer is venturing into TV land, signing his very first overall TV deal, in the form of a two-year agreement with Universal TV, which will see Packer develop projects for the studio.
“We are excited to work with Will,” said Bela Bajaria, exec veep of Universal TV. “We have been impressed by his keen eye on the feature side with the several hit movies he’s produced. We are looking forward to bringing his enthusiasm and expertise into television.”
No word on what kinds of projects to expect from this deal, but given Packer’s pact efforts, and his spoken desire to play in several sandboxes, I expect a variety.
Like his Think Like A Man star Kevin Hart, it’s going to be a very busy next 12 months for producer Packer and his Rainforest Films, with, in addition to this new TV deal with Universal, at least 4 feature films scheduled to be released in 2014 that he and his company produced – including: Ride Along, which stars Ice Cube and Kevin Hart; the thriller, No Good Deed, which stars Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson; the remake of About Last Night with Michael Ealy, Regina Hall, Kevin Hart, and Joy Bryant; and the sequel to Think Like A Man, which is set for a spring 2014 release.
In fact, just about all these titles are scheduled to be released during the first 5 months of 2014, so those 5 months should be very busy for Packer.
