The man accused of gunning down famed rapper and philanthropist Nipsey Hussle has called on a prosecutor from another famous murder trial to serve as his defense lawyer, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Attorney Chris Darden gained notoriety when he served as one of the prosecutors in the 1995 O.J. Simpson murder trial. The former NFL running back was accused of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman in 1994. The case received national attention, and Simpson was ultimately found not guilty on all counts.

Per The Times, Darden has worked mostly defense in murder trials since the Simpson case. He tried unsuccessfully to limit media attention surrounding his newly appointed client in the wake of the investigation, but prosecutor John McKinney vetoed that proposal.

Holder, 29, entered a not guilty plea on Thursday, according to a previous Blavity report. The aspiring rapper is being charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Should he be found guilty, Holder will face life in prison.

The suspect murdered the Victory Lap artist Sunday afternoon outside of his clothing shop in southern Los Angeles. Two other people were injured in the shooting, but they are expected to survive.
