With this being LGBT
History Month
, and with Spirit Day
approaching on October 17th, filmmakers
Andrea Boston and Sekiya Dorsett are currently in post-production on their documentary “Women and the Word: The Revival Movie” which she describes as “a groundbreaking documentary being developed
by queer women of color.

The film follows five young women who hit the road with their
The Revival Tour last year, with the goal being to bring music and poetry to actual living rooms across the U.S. and abroad,
creating safe spaces, participating in several sold-out shows over eight cities in nine days.

The revival captures the tour’s five troupe members as “they
grow as women, performers, and as friends
,” and also features
interviews with leading black feminist thinkers, including Dr. Alexis Pauline Gumbs and Kim
Katrin Crosby
.

As Ms. Boston says, the film is about musicpoetry.
sisterhood. drama. groupies. after parties. conversations on sexuality and
gender identity
,” as it documents a full range of experiences, and tells
a never-before-seen story of queer women of color.

Ms. Boston and Ms. Dorsett have launched a public Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to
raise the remaining $15,000 to cover the costs of post-production. To contribute to the campaign, click HERE for its Kickstarter project page.
