Rachel Dolezal has proven to be a woman of many manipulations, so faking it until she (almost) makes it may very well be her calling.

According to KXLY Spokane, Dolezal has been charged with welfare fraud after investigators discovered she failed to report part of her self-employment income. Legally changing her name to Nkechi Diallo in 2016, the mother of two is facing a possible felony.

The former Spokane, Washington, NAACP president, who passed as black for years until her parents revealed she is Caucasian, allegedly received $8,747 in illegal food assistance and $100 in illegal child care assistance. She's charged with first-degree theft by way of welfare fraud, perjury in the 2nd degree and false verification for public assistance. USA Today reports that she could face up to 15 years in prison.

Investigators from the Department of Social and Health Services reviewed her records and found she had been reporting her only source of income as $300 per month in gifts from friends. However, as Dolezal continued to promote her book In Full Color, investigators found a typical contract would include payments of $10,000 to $20,000 as advances against later royalties. As the investigation continued, her bank statements showed over $83,000 had been deposited into her account between August 2015 and August 2017.

The jokes surrounding the whole situation are just as silly as the idea that we can change our race.

Regardless of whether she thinks she's above race, she ain't above the law. Dolezal is expected to appear in court on June 6.
