Hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd is gearing up to release their second album, Sremmlife 2 later this year. In an interview with The Fader, brothers Khalif “Swae Lee” and Aaquil “Slim Jimmi” Brown discuss writing for Beyoncé and claims that they have ghostwriters for their songs.

Swae Lee is a credited writer for “Formation”, the lead single from Beyoncé’s latest critically-acclaimed album, Lemonade. He wrote the hook for the song, despite never working personally with the singer on the track.

“When I made that Beyoncé hook I was thinking nothing about it. A couple months later, Mike tells me that Beyoncé wants it. I couldn’t imagine!”

He later was invited by the singer to hear the final product of the song.

“I come in the studio and she’s just like, a goddess or something. Just sitting there. This good aura. They played it for me and I’m like, It’s a new Beyoncé. She put her own twist on it. She has so much sauce on that song, it blew me away. She freaked it,” he said.

Another topic during the interview was how radio personality Ebro Darden publicly criticized Complex’s decision to rank Rae Sremmurd’s first album, Sremmlife, as the third-best album of the year. The DJ claimed the brothers did not write any of the album claiming Mike WiLL Made-It “made that album.”

The duo was still confused over the allegations, with Swae Lee saying, “It’s such a false statement. Where’d it come from? You pulled it out your a**.” Additionally, Mike WiLL Made-It and their manager, Migo, continue to rebuff it as well.

“Ebro’s from a whole other generation, which is cool. He probably grew up on Ice Cube. Rae Sremmurd make music that’s familiar to them, music they like to make. I think that most of the culture now leans toward that music too,” Migo said.

The full interview is a very interesting read, which talks about their childhood and their unconventional start in the industry and later rise to fame. You can read the in-depth interview at The Fader.
