With Raven’s Home season 5 looking a lot like That’s So Raven, Raven-Symoné tells us she has her eye on a crown.
Season 5 of the show is a soft reboot of sorts with the show switching locations from Chicago to San Francisco. The only original cast members to make the move are Raven-Symone and Issac Ryan Brown (Booker). With Raven back home, Rondell Sheridan is joining as a main cast member to reprise his role as Victor Baxter.
In this season, after Raven moves back to take care of her dad after he has a mild heart attack, she “finds herself parenting her parent, raising her young cousin and settling into life in her old hometown. Meanwhile, Booker is ‘the new kid’ at Raven’s old high school and has to keep his visions a secret from a new group of friends.”
In an interview with Shadow and Act, Raven-Symoné says she is excited to return to the 'That's So Raven' roots and says this version of the show is closer to a reboot.
“You know, when we started the first season of Raven’s Home, we really wanted to tell people that this wasn’t a reboot,” she told us. “It’s a different show with similar characters, but a different show. This time you guys…we are home! We are with dad, we are with family and we have some amazing characters coming back from the original That’s So Raven, so this is closer to a reboot….[well] anything but still not a reboot. We don’t like to call it that [laughs].”
For the sitcom vet, it’s like being home, literally and figuratively.
“We are having such a good time on the sets that I grew up on and being able to watch new characters thrive in these sets and create new stories to add to the beautiful cake that’s already been created there is just…we have a great day, every day of the week,” she said.
Brown added, “Raven Baxter has left a stamp on San Francisco [laughs] and it’s almost every episode. Everywhere we go, either she’s banned, or she’s working to get banned. It’s fun trying maneuver [through] characters to get her into places or get [her] out of places. And it’s just funny being back to the fantastic San Francisco.”
“You’re pretty infamous in the city. The city itself is not infamous,” Brown tells Symoné.
With the show five seasons in, the actress says she didn't think about it lasting this long.
“Honestly, I had no idea, but as Isaac knows, every single day, we’re like… we’d love to go 100 episodes,” she explained. “I’m gonna beat my own record. This is what we have to do. We have to do it. So I didn’t know it [would be this many seasons] because I’m not psychic….or are we? [laughs] But that was definitely a goal.”
Brown added, “That was always the goal. A few weeks after we [Raven and I] met, once I had the job and everything, she was just like, ‘Yeah, we’re going for 100.’ And that’s the goal every day. And every day it creeps up. And that’ll be a record for [her] because nobody has ever played the same character for 200+ episodes on the channel.”
