Having faced numerous health battles over the past few years, R&B sensation August Alsina was hospitalized on Monday after losing feeling in his legs.
The New Orleans singer, who was scheduled to perform at Essence Fest on Sunday night, revealed on Instagram that he was rushed to the hospital due to his autoimmune condition, Power 105.1 reports.
“I woke up one day and I wasn’t able to walk,” Alsina shared in the video from a hospital bed. “My doctor ended up admitting me and doing a bunch of tests. He said I have some nerve damage going on throughout my whole body that I have to go into a recovery process for. It's like my immune system just went on vacation."
The “I Luv This S**t” crooner has endured several close calls with his health, including a 2015 diagnosis of a rare eye disease called Keratoconus which causes vision loss and battling liver disease.
“The reality of it is that I’m sick all the time. I don’t really like to talk about it because I’m not looking for anybody’s sympathy,” Alsina said during an interview with Jada Pinkett Smith.
Though Alsina revealed that the disease is hereditary and was one of several illnesses experienced by his late father and grandfather, he said that his faith keeps him encouraged.
“[K]now that HE’s got you even when it all feels too complex ????⚡️????????, ” he captioned.
Fellow singers and celebrities Jacquees, Ty Dolla $ign, Keri Hilson and DC Young Fly sent the singer well wishes on Instagram. Alsina said he looks forward to dropping new music for his fans upon recovery. Get well soon, August!
