Rapper Real Boston Richey pulled the music video for his single “Send a Blitz” and released a statement apologizing to Florida A&M University. The rapper had shot scenes for the video inside the football team’s locker room without the school’s authorization. This resulted in a controversy that initially led to football activities being suspended.

“Out of respect for FAMU, the video for ‘Send a Blitz’ is no longer available,” the rapper wrote in a statement posted on social media. “I have a long-standing amicable relationship with the FAMU community and its athletic teams, and I hope to continue to build with them in the future.”

“This video was not meant to be disrespectful in any way but to highlight my love for the school and its teams,” he added.

Real Boston Richey called his fans to stream the track instead.

FAMU suspended football on July 22 as it investigated how the rapper gained access to school facilities. He was featured wearing official FAMU apparel, including the school’s green and orange color and its signature rattlesnake logo. Members of the football team also appeared in some scenes.

“The video contained graphic language that is not consistent with Florida A&M’s core values, principles and beliefs, and an internal investigation is underway to determine who authorized the use of not only the athletic facility at Galimore-Powell but also licensed apparel that potentially violates university branding and licensing agreements,” Willie R. Simmons, FAMU’s head football coach, had said in a statement.

Days later, the FAMU football team was cleared to return to their usual schedule. The investigation is reportedly still ongoing.

“An investigation into the unauthorized video that was partially filmed in the football locker room is being led by the University’s Office of Compliance and Ethics,” vice president and athletic director Tiffani-Dawn Sykes said in a July 24 statement. “Since this is an ongoing investigation, no further comment can be shared at this time. In my role, I have been transparent with stakeholders, and this time will be no different. I will make myself available for comment at the conclusion of the investigation.”

The Rattlers will open the season against Jackson State on Sept. 3, according to HBCU Legends. They will play the 2023 Orange Blossom Classic at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
