In its own way, Red Table Talk has addressed Will Smith’s Oscars’ slap.
People have been looking forward to the return of the show in order to learn more about the inner details of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith’s life post-Smith’s decision to slap Chris Rock at the Oscars.
But, the show has given a statement in the fifth season opener saying that they will talk about the incident in due time, but not right now.
The statement tells audiences that the family had healing from the moment as their primary focus.
“Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focused on deep healing,” according to the series‘ opening titles. “Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls. Until then the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest.”
It is worth nothing that the season 5 premiere, with guest Janelle Monaé, was taped pre-Oscars.
In the episode, she opened up about her journey of sexual self-discovery and identifying within the LGBTQ+ community.
As the series description states:
The unapologetic LGBTQIA+ superhero and 8-time Grammy nominee reveals why she no longer sees herself as a woman and what inspired her to come out at age 32. Janelle shares how she overcame her fears of abandonment and healed from the traumatizing effects of her father’s drug addiction, a special appearance by her feisty and fierce-loving mom Janet Hawthorne shakes up the table, and a dream comes true for a Janelle superfan.
