One could say Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has endured a substantial amount of racial and gender bigotry over the last week by those who champion the prejudiced rhetoric of President Donald Trump. However, questions of her citizenship and chants to "send her back" were replaced with roars of "Welcome home!" when the freshman congresswomen touched down in her home state of Minnesota Thursday evening. 

According to HuffPost, at least 150 supporters crowded a terminal to greet the 37-year-old at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport shortly before she hosted a town hall the same evening. 

"Welcome home, Ilhan!" could be heard from the crowd holding signs and inching to shake the rep's hand. Another constituent exclaimed, "We have your back!"

Speaking to the small but mighty crowd, Omar promised to continue holding the president accountable and keeping her district's interests in mind throughout her tenure in Congress.

"The reality is everybody talks about how [Trump] is threatened because we criticize him," Omar said, via Minnesota Public Radio. "But the reality is he is threatened because we are inspiring people to dream about a country that recognizes our dignity and our humanity."

She added: "His nightmare is seeing the beautiful mosaic fabric of our country welcome someone like me as their member of Congress. We are going to continue being a nightmare to this president because his policies are a nightmare to us."

Omar has been the subject of flippant attacks from Trump supporters after the president suggested that she along with fellow Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) "go back" to where they came from if they don't agree with his policies. With the exception of Omar who was born in Somalia, the rest of "The Squad" members were born in the states. Omar is a naturalized citizen, however.

Many rebuked Trump's chastisement as racist, but the president made no attempt to apologize for his comments. In fact, he allowed a hoard of followers to shout "Send her back!" during a rally in Greenville, North Carolina Wednesday. 

After being confronted with questions about why he refused to condemn the audience's rally, Trump insisted he did, but footage reveals 45 only continued speaking after chanting died down.

According to Minnesota Public Radio, Omar's joint town hall with fellow Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) revolved around the subject of health care.
