nullBritish actor/comedian/screenwriter and actor Richard Ayoade (who makes his American film debut in the Fox comedy The Watch this summer) will follow his 2011 film directing debut, Submarine, with The Double, which starts shooting on May 20th in London, from a script Ayoade co-wrote with Avi Korine.

Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn and Noah Taylor, the film is a comic reinterpretation of Foydor Dostoyevsky's 1846 novel.

According the film's official synopsis, the lead character Simon is "a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world.  He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams.  He feels powerless to change any of these things.  The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance.  James is both Simon's exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and good with women.  To Simon's horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

No release date has been set for the film, though it already has been sold to several overseas markets including France, Hong Kong, Switzerland and Portugal.
