It's a good day to be the son of a star. The University of Miami announced on Friday that they were offering scholarships to the son of rapper Rick Ross as well as the sons of NFL legends Jason Taylor and Edgerrin James, according to USA Today. 

The Hurricanes were once regarded as the best college football program in the country and were seen as a farm of NFL talent, sending dozens of future hall-of-famers to the league in the '80s and '90s. 

But in recent years the team has struggled to regain its former glory. 

In an effort to acquire some of their past glory, the university handed out three scholarships to the sons of some of the best players to ever come through the program. 

Ross' son, William Roberts, was offered a scholarship for 2024, while Eden James and Mason Taylor were offered scholarships for 2022. 


Eden James is playing running back like his dad and racked up 750 yards and nine touchdowns for Treasure Coast High School in Port Saint Lucie, Florida, 247Sports reported. He also has a football scholarship offer from Howard University. 

Mason Taylor played tight end at St. Thomas Aquinas and brought in six catches for 133 yards, according to 247Sports. He also has scholarship offers from schools like Florida International University and Syracuse University. 

Roberts just finished his freshman year at the same high school as Taylor but he's already 6-foot-2, 270-pound,s and played on the offensive line. Ross himself played football at Albany State.

"It feels good. It's a dream come true," Roberts told 247Sports. 

A number of rappers have had sons play football in college, including Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Nate Dogg and Diddy. 

"Will’s size, strength, and athleticism have enabled him to play some quality time this season and start a couple of games. He’s an extremely talented player and a well rounded, character-oriented person. His best days are ahead of him," Roger Harriott, St. Thomas Aquinas head coach, said in an interview with 247Sports.

The high school has produced dozens of NFL stars including Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa, Giovani Bernard, James White, Geno Atkins and many others.
