It’s finally happening! Rihanna‘s performance at the Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show is only a few days away. It’s been a minute since the Barbadian beauty did her thing onstage, and to say fans are excited would be an understatement.

Ahead of the big performance, RiRi spilled the tea on what fans can expect and how it all came to be during the Super Bowl LVII Pregame & Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show Press Conference on Thursday in Phoenix.

“It feels like it could have only been now,” she said during the press conference. “When I first got the call to do it again this year, I was like, ‘Are you sure? I’m three months postpartum. Should I be making major decisions like this now? I might regret this.'”

But when she thought about her infant son, whom she welcomed last May, she said she knew she had to do it.

“When you become a mom, there’s something that happens where you feel like you can take on the world and can do anything,” Rihanna told Apple Music’s Nadeska Alexis. “The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. So, as scary as that was, because I haven’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all. And it’s important for me to do this this year. It’s important for representation. It’s important for my son to see that.”

The star will undoubtedly go all out, as she’s had tunnel vision in preparation for the performance.

“I’ve been so focused on the Super Bowl, I totally forgot that my birthday is coming up,” she said. “I totally forgot about Valentine’s Day.”

Rihanna added that the most challenging part of getting Super Bowl ready was curating the perfect set list.

“That was the hardest, hardest part — deciding how to maximize 13 minutes but also celebrate,” she shared. “That’s what this show is going to be. It’s going to be a celebration of my catalog in the best way that we could have put it together. You’re trying to cram 17 years of work into 13 minutes, so it’s difficult. Some songs we had to lose because of that, and that’s going to be OK, but I think we did a pretty good job at narrowing it down.”

And things are still up in the air.

“There are probably about 39 versions of the set list right now,” Rihanna confessed. “Every little change counts, whether I want a guitar cut out, something muted, something added, or just put in a whole new song, or take out a whole song. Every time I make a change, something has to be updated, and that’s the new version.”

Ultimately, this performance will show the world that anything is possible, and Rihanna wants that message to ring especially true to those who need to hear it.

“That’s a big part of why this is important for me to do this show: representation,” she explained. “Representing for immigrants. Representing for my country, Barbados. Representing for Black women everywhere. I think that’s really important. That’s key for people to see the possibilities. And I’m honored to be here. I’m honored to be doing this this year.”

Rihanna didn’t mention names that may share the stage during her Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show performance, but it will surely be memorable. So be sure to tune in on Sunday!
