Rihanna may have headlined the Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show. But according to the internet, the singer’s American Sign Language performer, 20-year-old Justina Miles, was the real star.

Not long after Rihanna dominated the stage during the sporting event, videos of Miles cutting loose while signing the highly anticipated show began circulating online.

“Rihanna’s deffo pulling some queen s**t BUT ALSO CAN WE TALK ABOUT THIS ASL INTERPRETER? She’s doing such a great job and bringing so much energy,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Shoutout to ASL interpreter justina miles for absolutely going off for rihanna’s #SuperbOwl performance,” the organization Off Colour tweeted.

Miles made history at Super Bowl LVII, becoming the first deaf woman to provide ASL interpretation during a halftime performance.

She also performed on stage during Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph’s stunning rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” in the preshow.

While participating in the press conference ahead of the annual event, Miles, who went viral in 2020 for signing rapper Lil’ Kim’s 1997 song “Crush on You,” spoke on this incredible opportunity.

“I value the opportunity to make it possible for all deaf people to enjoy these songs, and not have them miss out on the full Super Bowl experience,” Miles said, according to CNBC.

She said it was important “not only for me to share this experience with the whole world,” she said, “but to really bring that empowerment to millions and millions of Black deaf people all over the country who’ve never really seen that before. I feel that is truly lifting every voice, even my voice.”
