Bachelor in Paradise stars Riley Christian and Maurissa Gunn got engaged on last night's season finale, making them the first Black couple in the franchise's history to do so, The AV Club reports

The season featured 41 contestants on the sandy beach in Mexico, with only three couples walking out engaged.

Fans on social media shared their excitement and support of the outcome.

Matt James, who recently starred in the 18th season, became the first Black Bachelor, and Rachel Lindsay, the first Black Bachelorette in the franchise's history, searched for her love during the 13th season.

The fan-favorite couple expressed their love, with Gunn sharing a picture of the two on her Instagram account.

The beautiful proposal started with Gunn telling her future spouse "fairy tales do exist" and professing her love for Christian.

"You make me feel safe; you make me feel protected," she said. "The more that I run, the more that you stay — the more I fall in love with you."

Christian followed up before getting on one knee with a heartfelt speech.

"I've gone from city to city, from state to state, and now from country to country in search of something very special," he said. "The difficult thing about what I'm searching for is that it's not something that you can always see. It's the feeling of my heart beating fast, it's the feeling of butterflies in my stomach, it's the feeling of goosebumps on my arms, and I know that that feeling is love. See, Maurissa, I love you, and I've loved you since our very first date, but I need to be sure," Christian professed before popping the question.
