Long Island University is partnering with Roc Nation to open the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports and Entertainment in Jay-Z’s home borough.

LIU Brooklyn will begin enrolling students for the new school, which will offer undergraduate degrees in music, music technology, sports management and entrepreneurship and production, in the fall 2021 semester according to a Roc Nation press release.

Twenty-five percent of students enrolled in the school will receive a Roc Nation Hope Scholarship. Recipients will be provided with individualized support and mentorship in addition to financial aid. They will be selected from a pool of students from New York based on academic strength and financial need. 

Guest artists and lecturers will instruct the students alongside university professors, and students will hold internships in order to get hands-on experience.

LIU President Dr. Kimberly Cline said the school’s location provides students with access to music and sports professionals and experiences that can help jumpstart their careers.

“We look forward to joining with Roc Nation to offer an unprecedented educational resource that opens up the entertainment and sports world to a new and eager generation,” Cline said.

Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez said the partnership is an investment into the community and the next generation.

“Pursuing higher education is an investment in one’s future,” she said. “We’re excited that the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment will provide unique insight, knowledge, and experiences for students and introduce the world to the next generation of unmatched talent.”

According to Brett Yormark, Roc Nation’s president of business operations and strategy, Jay-Z’s entertainment company chose to partner with LIU because the university has shown continued interest in and support for music and sports. Yormark said the company is considering further expansion with the collaboration beyond the inaugural school.

The school will also be offering educational opportunities for students not yet enrolling in college via camps in sports management and music. Summer residential camps will be available for high school students, and year-round Saturday sessions will be available for kids ages 10-18. Scholarships will also be available for the camps.

Sports management students will have a new roster to learn from, as the Ball brothers recently signed to Roc Nation Sports. Lonzo Ball, LaMelo Ball and LiAngelo Ball made the family decision to all sign with the company's management team, reports CBS Sports. Lonzo currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans, LaMelo is expected to be a top pick in this year’s NBA draft and LiAngelo currently plays for NBA G League team Oklahoma City Blue.

Rugby star Cheslin Kolbe also joined the team back in July, reports Briefly. The 26-year-old was nominated for World Rugby Player of the Year in 2019. 

Roc Nation's music directory is also expanding. Kelly Rowland recently signed to its management team as an independent artist, according to the Associated Press.

“It’s family and it just happened. It just really happened to work and it’s working out really well so far,” the "Motivation" singer said about the new deal.
