nullFrom the rumor-mill, once again, courtesy of The Times UK. Although, no official confirmation of any of this from the actors themselves, the studio, or the director.

Just over a month ago, the rumor was that David Oyelowo and Michael B. Jordan (2 black actors who are having very good years, starring in 2 of 2013’s most-talked about films) had both met with director J.J. Abrams regarding roles in the upcoming Star Wars franchise reboot, although no word on what specific roles Abrams was/is considering the 2 actors for.

This month, the rumor is that another black actor having a very good year, starring in 1 of 2013’s most-talked about films in 12 Years A Slave, is also being considered for a part in the J.J. Abrams-directed film – the first of at least 3 more Stars Wars movies (VIIVIII and IX).
In a Times UK profile of Abrams, the writer mentions that, on a trip to Abrams’ office to meet with him for their interview, Chiwetel Ejiofor was sitting in the lobby of Abrams’ office, there to meet with him as well.
Naturally, that piece of news led to rumors that Ejiofor was there to meet Abrams to discuss joining the Star Trek cast.
Sure, I suppose that’s one possibility; but there are others as well, and we’ll just have to wait to find out which one it ends up being. Or maybe they’re friends, and Chiwetel was meeting Abrams for lunch.

You’ll recall that it was last fall when Disney bought Lucasfilm for $4.1 billion, announcing its intent to make another trilogy (at least) of Star Wars films, with the first one (to be directed by J.J. Abrams) set for release in 2015, and a new one every two to three years thereafter.

On top of that, Disney later revealed that, in addition to at least 3 more films, fans should expect stand-alone films, and TV series, separate from the official Star Wars films, that will be based on Star Wars characters.

These spin-off films and TV series will be released between the releases of the already announced 3 (or more) new Stars Wars movies (VIIVIII and IX).

We still don’t know what characters will be spun-off into their own movies and TV shows, however. So it could very be that anyone of these meetings Abrams has had (with Oyelowo, Jordan and Ejiofor) could be for one of the spin-off films or TV series.

Maybe one of them will be a young Lando Calrissian, or Mace Windu.

With recent news that Disney has officially ended its extremely profitable relationship with super producer Jerry Bruckheimer, I’d imagine that Disney’s film release slate over the next 5 to 10 years, will comprise mostly of new Star Wars movies, movies based on characters from Marvel’s vast library of content (Disney paid $4.2 billion to buy the comic book and film studio in 2009) and Pixar movies.

But the studio is clearly sitting on a goldmine with those 3 brand name acquisitions.

Star Wars: Episode VII is expected to open in 2015.

Now we wait.
