RuPaul’s Drag Race UK made an official return to television screens after seven months of no production due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Fans have been awaiting the return of the U.K. spinoff of the Emmy award-winning reality show to indulge in all of the charisma and talent served up by the contestants and Mama Ru herself. This time around, the season opener did not disappoint with the jabs, the shade and the runway look critiques.

After contestant Veronica Green had to withdraw from the race due to a positive result from a coronavirus detection test, previously booted off contestant Joe Black was granted the opportunity to step back into the race, according to them. Black, who was the first queen eliminated from the show, had no idea RuPaul’s reaction to her dress would be just as quick as her initial exit from the show.

After sporting a dress admittedly from H&M, Black was chastised by RuPaul for wearing the off-the-rack ensemble.

“That outfit, off the rack, was a huge disappointment to me. That’s what everyday people do, and you should know that because you are a star,” RuPaul told Black. “If it is from H&M you better glitter the f**k out of it and make it something special. We’re looking for Great Britain’s next superstar”
RuPaul continued with the criticism of the outfit by explaining the gravity of being a contestant on the show and the expectations that come with it.

“I don’t want to see any f**king H&M,” RuPaul said. "I came all the way across the pond. I want more. I want more… This is the biggest stage for drag in the world. This is the Eurovision of drag. So, I think we’ve heard enough."

Following RuPaul’s critiques, one of the show’s judges, Michelle Visage was tapped in to share her thoughts on the returning contestant’s look, which she said, “looked like it could’ve been bought off the rack at Primark, no joke.”

Since the episode aired on Thursday, Twitter has been crawling with memes, GIFs and spinoff flicks in reference to RuPaul’s criticism of the contestant.

Black was even in positive spirits the day following the feedback to give Twitter fans a poke of fun.

RuPaul later apologized for the harsh critiques following the behind-the-scenes Untucked episode, Gay Times UK
reported

“I want you to know that if I was a little too hard on you earlier, it’s because I see so much potential in each of you. And if nothing else, these times have taught us to seize the day. Carpe diem, darling!” RuPaul said to Black.

RuPaul continued to explain how being in a two-week quarantine “might have a little something to do” with his response to Black’s look.
