Russell Westbrook is supporting his wife, Nina Westbrook, as she stands up to online trolls. After his wife called out Skip Bayless for allegedly blocking her and making disparaging comments about Russell, the Lakers player acknowledged the conversation during a post-game presser.

“I 100% stand behind my wife and … it’s not just about this year,” Russell said, per Complex. “Right now, she’s reached a point and my family has reached a point to where it’s really weighing on them and it’s very unfortunate just for me personally because this is just a game. This is not end all be all. When it comes to basketball, I don’t mind the criticism of missing and making shots, but the moment it becomes where my name is getting shamed, it becomes an issue.”

As Blavity previously reported, Nina called out Bayless via Twitter on Monday, explicitly airing out her frustrations with the sports commentator for supposedly blocking her page.

“I just found out that @skipbayless blocked me on Twitter… as though I’m the one [constantly] harassing him and calling him out of his name,” Nina wrote on Twitter.

“Mr Bayless. I’m a real person. If you’re able to use your platform to degrade my husband and constantly call him out of his name, then at least be adult enough to deal with the consequences of your actions,” she continued. “Don’t try to erase me from your reality to make yourself feel better about your choices.”

She later admitted she was mistaken in accusing Bayless of blocking her account.

“I’m not blocked and free to respond to his tweets, which I gladly will,” Nina wrote.

She also made a point to bring up his constant name-calling. In the year that Westbrook has been with the Lakers, joining the likes of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Carmelo Anthony, Bayless has given the player the nickname “Westbrick.”

“I’m tired [of] @RealSkipBayless calling my husband out of his name. It is extremely childish,” she wrote. “That is my name as well, and many other peoples name. You’re disrespectful, and I’m extremely offended by your behavior. You should apologize.”

Bayless tweeted a statement in response to Nina, though he didn’t give her the apology she requested.

“Dear Mrs. Westbrook: Thank you for clarifying that I didn’t block you,” he said. “I welcome your criticism and appreciate your [sic] defending your husband. But I will continue to tell the truth as I see it.”

Nina also shared with her followers that she’s been harassed regularly “over basketball games” and that her and her family have been receiving death threats, E News reports.

“Basketball is a game. This is my life, my children’s lives, and my families life. Shaming anyone for any reason is never the answer,” she tweeted, according to E News.
