Samuel L. Jackson went to Twitter on Friday to speak out against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who voted in favor of eliminating access to abortion while also calling to overturn the right to same-sex marriage and contraception. In his tweet on Friday, Jackson wondered if Thomas would use the same precedent to overturn the 1967 Loving v. Virginia ruling, which protects interracial marriages.
“How’s Uncle Clarence feeling about Overturning Loving v Virginia??!! Jackson wrote.

The actor’s tweet was subtly referring to Thomas’ own interracial marriage to his wife Ginni Thomas. Jackson dubbed the Supreme Court justice as Uncle Clarence to suggest that he may resemble an “Uncle Tom,” the term used to describe a Black person who is overly obedient to white authority figures.
According to the Huffpost, Thomas didn’t mention the Loving case while calling for other human rights laws to be overturned.
Jim Obergefell, who was the lead plaintiff in the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage, said Thomas neglected to mention Loving v. Virginia because it “affects him personally.”
“That affects him personally, but he doesn’t care about the LGBTQ+ community,” Obergefell said when he sat down for an interview on MSNBC’s The Reid Out. “He is opposed to our equality. He is opposed to our ability to actually be a part of ‘we the people.'”

Obergefell also released a statement to condemn the Supreme Court justice.
“Clarence Thomas is a Supreme Court justice appointed by humans, he is not the Supreme Deity,” Obergefell said according to the Huffpost. “The millions of loving couples who have the right to marriage equality to form their own families do not need Clarence Thomas imposing his individual twisted morality upon them. If you want to see an error in judgment, Clarence Thomas, look in the mirror.”
