Samuel L. Jackson, Michael K. Williams and Marianne Jean-Baptiste are all co-starring in MGM’s upcoming reboot of Robocop, helmed by Brazilian director Jose Padilha (probably best know for Elite Squad, and its sequel).

Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) stars as the title character, and Gary Oldman will play the mad scientist who created him.

Jackson plays a character named Pat Novak, a charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world who Jackson himself describes as “a combination of Rush Limbaugh and Al Sharpton,” referring to him as “Rush Sharpton;” Williams plays Robocop’s partner; and Jean-Baptiste is Police Chief Karen Dean.

Its official synopsis reads:

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilises their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

A better trailer than the first one, but, this isn’t a film that I have any interest in seeing. The original Robocop franchise was more than enough for me. The first film was enough.

I predict another mega-budgeted Hollywood studio failure.
