Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast of Spike Lee's Oldboy, which already stars Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley and Elizabeth Olsen.

Jackson's role will reportedly by "a small but critical part," as a man who tortured by the Brolin's lead character in a revenge sequence.

Fans of Park Chan-wook's 2003 film will remember the gruesome torture scene in which Dae-su Oh (played by Min-sik Choi) yanks out the teeth of one of his revenge targets, one-by-one, with a claw hammer.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the clip online, so if you haven't seen the film, you'll have to use your imagination, or watch the film.

Although maybe it doesn't matter because Spike's Oldboy will not mimic that scene; instead, a "different kind of torture" will be used in that sequence, but nobody's saying what exactly that will be.

Also joining the film, but on the crew side, is Bruce Hornsby. Hornsby will compose an original soundtrack for Spike's Oldboy. And interesting choice. When I think of dark, violent revenge thrillers, and their soundtracks, Bruce Hornsby isn't the first name that comes to mind. Instead I think of Mandolin Rain and The Way It Is. 

But he IS Bruce Hornsby, and I'm curious to hear what he does with the Oldboy soundtrack; he's obviously aware of what he's working with here, stating "I'm working on a few things and I'll send them to Spike soon… The 'D' word has been spoken to me by him… But I think the score will also run the gamut."

By 'D' word, he means 'dark.'

Hornsby has worked with Spike Lee before, most recently scoring Red Hook Summer.
