SAN DIEGO PUBLIC LIBRARY’S FRIDAY TALKING PICTURES FILM SERIES SCREENS FOUR SPIKE LEE JOINTS
Explore Race, Culture and Urban Life Through the Eyes of a True New Yorker
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Public Library will screen four cinema “joints” by filmmaker Spike Lee, one on each Friday in January at 2:30 PM in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Central Library, located at 820 E Street in downtown San Diego.
Friday Talking Pictures is a worldspanning celebration of contemporary and classic cinema viewed on a wide silver screen.
Audience discussions will oftentimes follow the screenings.
This event is FREE and open to the public. Unobtrusive snacks welcome.
January 6th – Do the Right Thing – On the hottest day of the year on a street in Brooklyn, everyone's hate and bigotry smolders and builds until it explodes into violence.
January 13th – Summer of Sam – During the summer of 1977, residents of a South Bronx neighborhood live in fear and distrust of one another amidst the “Son of Sam” murders.
January 20th – Clockers – Young drug pushers in the projects of Brooklyn live hard dangerous lives, trapped between their drug bosses and the detectives out to stop them.
January 27th – Bamboozled– A frustrated African American TV writer proposes a blackface minstrel show in protest, but to his chagrin it becomes a hit.
