Saweetie returned to her alma mater for a special performance. On Sunday, the Bay Area native stopped by San Diego State’s homecoming to dance alongside its dance team, the SDSU Diamonds. The team performed to Saweetie’s breakout hit “My Type.”
An Instagram video posted by Saweetie shows her leading the SDSU Diamonds. Social media users praised the 31-year-old’s return to celebrate with them.
“I love seeing the girls thriving return back to their Alma Maters 😍🔥” one wrote.
Another shared, “Living for the girl in the back in complete SHOCK that Saweetie was RIGHT there😂”
Saweetie attended San Diego State University before transferring to the University of Southern California and earning her bachelor’s degree in communications in 2016. She also shared a carousel of her time as a Diamonds dancer captioned “#TBT 😩😩😩 #SDSUhomecoming this week !!!!! 😈😈😈”
In a May interview with The Zach Sang Show, the “Icy Girl” discussed her college experience and shared, “College taught me how to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations,” before adding, “In a lot of those rooms, sometimes I’d be the only woman of color.”
She commented on how “intimidating” it could be and continued, “Not only did I go to these schools; I’m first generation. I didn’t have anyone to like mentor me. I had no guidance.”
Saweetie remarked, “I feel like no guidance is a common theme in my life; anyways, it’s made me a strong woman.”
