Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, the popular TLC program that follows brides and their troupes on a quest to find the perfect wedding gown, is set to make history on Friday by showcasing its first transgender couple on the long-running series.
Both Precious Davis and her groom, Myles Brady, are transgender. However, in an interview with The Today Show, Precious made it known that “…we’re also just humans. This isn’t about someone’s genitalia; this is about love and acceptance. We’re really re-creating and redefining what that word looks like.”
Precious, a self-declared diva, currently works and lives in Chicago as a motivational speaker, consultant, and diversity officer, while Myles works as an outreach coordinator at the Howard Brown Health Center. Both are champions for trans-rights and were recognized by The Advocate in its 2015 list of the Trans100, which showcases the work, gains and strides of the trans community’s top advocates in various fields.
Precious hopes to present a positive representation of the trans-community on Friday’s episode while also showcasing the endless possibilities of finding one’s true love.
“Our representation shows that we are human beings, that we have emotions, that we have a desire to be loved, and to be held, and to have happiness,” Davis told The Advocate.
You can catch them in prime time on Friday at 9pm eastern on TLC.
