Sha’Carri Richardson, America’s fastest woman has proven that anyone can overcome adversity after partnering with Kanye West for a Beats by Dre commercial.
The ad, which dropped on Tuesday — just days before the Olympic games are slated to begin — features a 21-year-old Richardson. In it, West’s single “No Child Left Behind” from his new album Donda, plays.
The one-minute commercial starts off showing Richardson at the starting blocks on a track while outfitted in Nike gear.
The camera cuts to a scene of her doing warm up exercises while getting close-ups of her signature nails, a red wig and her listening to music from her Beats Studio Buds. The scene then cuts to Richardson rubbing her hands together and looking up to the sky, while West is heard singing in the background, “He’s done miracles on me."
The commercial then cuts back to Richardson at the starting blocks. However, this time she is seen sprinting in slow motion, as if she is competing in an event. The commercial concludes after the tagline “Live Your Truth” flashes across the screen.
The Beats ad played during Game 6 of the NBA Finals where Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Phoenix Suns with a final score of 105–98.
On Tuesday, the Beats by Dre Twitter account posted a message that read “[Richardson] doesn’t need you to let her do anything.”

The commercial comes after the star athlete faced a 30-day suspension from the U.S. Olympic team earlier this month after she tested positive for marijuana use, as Blavity previously reported.
The athlete said she smoked marijuana to cope with her mother’s recent death during the Olympic trials in June.
Due to violating Olympic rules, Richardson missed out on her opportunity to compete in the 100m event during the Tokyo Olympics and to make matters worse American track officials did not select her to participate in the 4x100m relay competition.
Richardson reminded her fans in a twitter post that she is human and since she’s young, she will have many other opportunities to compete in the Olympics moving forward.
I am human

While some criticized Richardson for breaking Olympic protocols, others stood by her side and are happy to see her bounce back from her setbacks. Some fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts about the Beats’ commercial.
She made a mistake but should be allowed to move forward. No one should hold her accountable for the rest of her life. There are many journeys that she will travel. I hope more are positive. Sorry she lost her Mom.

The next Olympic games will be held in Paris in 2024 and many are hopeful Richardson will earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
