Announced via press release this evening, Phase 4 Films has acquired all North American rights to Shaka King's Newlyweeds, which made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last week, in the NEXT <=> section.
The gritty, stoner romantic dramedy, King's feature film debut, stars Amari Cheatom and newcomer Trae Harris, in addition to Isiah Whitlock, Colman Domingo, Tonya Pinkins, Diane Neal, Adrian Martinez and Hassan Johnson.
Phase 4 is aiming for a summer day and date theatrical and VOD release of Newlyweeds, a crowdpleaser of a movie produced by Jim Wareck, Michael Matthews, Shaka King and Gbenga Akinnagbe (making his producing debut).
“We are thrilled to be working with Shaka on his first feature. NEWLYWEEDS is an audience pleaser and we are looking forward to exposing it to audiences nationwide,” said Berry Meyerowitz, President & CEO of Phase 4 Films.
The deal was negotiated by Phase 4’s Larry Greenberg and Katharyn Howe with Glen Reynolds of Circus Road Films on behalf of the filmmakers.
Congratulations are in order for Shaka King and company!
