U.S. Rep. Shontel Brown (D-Ohio) is giving her unfiltered response to Rep. James Comer (R-Kentucky) after he made racist remarks when he recently appeared on One America News, Newsone reported. Comer hurled insults at Brown when he was blaming Democrats for failing to investigate the allegations Republicans raised about Medicaid fraud.
What did James Comer say about Rep. Shontel Brown?
While claiming that Medicaid fraud is happening in Ohio and other states, Comer said Brown is only trying to get more welfare “for her people.”
“You have Representative Shontel Brown, you know, her sole purpose in life is more welfare, more welfare for her people, you know, and my people are sick and tired of paying for welfare for able-bodied people,” Comer said about the Ohio rep.
The Kentucky Republican also took shots at immigrants, saying they “have become professionals at manipulating” the system. He then condemned Democrats for calling out the Republicans’ fraud allegations as racist.
“If you go after any type of fraudster that’s a minority, they were calling it racist,” Comer said.
What did Shontel Brown say in response to James Comer?
Brown responded to Comer when she posted a video on X on Wednesday.
“First of all, keep my name out of your mouth,” Brown said in her video. “Second of all, you’re not even hiding it anymore. When you talk about your people versus my people, not only is it divisive, but it’s giving racist.”
Brown also continued to clarify that the Medicaid debate is not in any way related to welfare and fraud.
“The fact that you think that this is about welfare and fraud is not the case,” she said. “This is about health care, it’s about access to health care.”
The Ohio congresswoman wanted to make it clear that she did her homework as well before clapping back.
“I did a little research, and 200,000 of your constituents count on Medicaid, so this is not about my people versus your people, this is about everyone being able to have healthcare, the healthcare that they need, the healthcare that they deserve,” she said.
