The U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team for the Tokyo Olympics was announced on Sunday and Simone Biles is leading the pack.
The reigning world champion and five-time Olympic gold medal winner officially secured her spot on the 2021 gymnastics team. Biles will be joined by MyKayla Skinner, Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, Jade Carey and Grace McCallum. Biles, Chiles, Lee, and McCallum will compete in team events. Skinner and McCallum will compete as individuals. Kayla DiCello, Kara Eaker, Leanne Wong and Emma Malabuyo will serve as the alternates.
Biles headlines the 2021 gymnastics team that has high hopes of bringing home multiple medals at the games, although she wasn't satisfied with her own individual performance on Sunday in St. Louis, Missouri. After the Olympic trials were over, she said she felt "sad" that she had not given her "best performance" and broke down in tears when she fell from the beam, a rare occurrence in her storied career.
"I kind of got in my head today and started doubting myself," Biles told ESPN. "And you could see that in the gymnastics. But just go home, work harder. This is just the beginning of the journey."

Despite her miscues, Biles still earned the top all-around spot, finishing the second day of competition more than two points ahead of her second-place teammate Suni Lee, locking up her spot on the team.
After a short turnaround to prepare for the Olympic trials due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Biles is glad that she made the team and can put her full concentration on the summer games taking place next month.
"Yes, very relieved that the Olympic trials are over," she said. "We still have a lot of work to put in once we get over there."
Biles, who is the favorite to capture the gold in each event she’ll participate in, is not only the star and senior member of the U.S. team but she is the face of the entire sport.
"I'm a little bit older, so I get tired quicker," Biles said in an interview with The Today Show. "I was really happy, but I was just sad because everybody came out here to watch us and I didn't give them my best performance. But at the end of the day, it is what it is."
Biles has a chance to make history by becoming the first woman gymnast to win back-to-back gold medals in the Olympics since Vera Caslavska accomplished the feat in 1968. She can break the record for most career Olympic gold medals won by a woman in any sport, a record held by swimmer Jenny Thompson who has eight gold medals.
