I love it when projects we've bee tracking from their beginnings are eventually realized, even if it's years later.

This one we first alerted you to in April 2011, and haven't reported much on it since then; however, I've had my antennae up for any progress it makes – like this morning, when I learned that it's not longer in its infancy, and is becoming a full-on film which the filmmakers are going to screen a sneak peek of on November 1 – just next week.!

First, a quick recap… it's a documentary film on the life, music, and philosophy of funk, soul, and jazz composer Roy Ayers from directing team, Haylow Overby and Ariel Nuñez.

Titled simply, The Roy Ayers Project, the film features, of course, Roy Ayers himself, as well as many Hip Hop producers (especially those who have sampled his music), and the many other musicians who have been influenced by the man and his art.

The filmmakers set up a website over a year ago, and have been keeping readers up-to-date on a regular basis, which is great. So, check it out at RoyAyersProject.com, where you'll find this announcement:

The Roy Ayers Documentary is ready to share a sneak peek with the world, and what better place to premiere it that in Brooklyn, New York? On November 1st, 2012, The Roy Ayers Project will be presenting their first public preview screening of the upcoming Roy Ayers Documentary, which is currently in progress. This is the first time that this footage will be presented to the public, and we welcome all of New York to join us for this historic event.

There will also be a brief Q&A session with the Roy Ayers Project Crew, as well as special giveaways.

Please note that this event is from 6pm – 9:45pm and open to the public. No RSVP necessary. Please arrive early as space is limited. Screening begins at 8pm sharp.

This event is open to the public, and cover is free. Donations to the Roy Ayers Project are gladly accepted.

I'm going to make an effort to be there, since it's my borough. If I can't go, I'll make sure someone's there who can report on the event.
