The latest installment of Audible Original’s Words+Music premiered Thursday, featuring rapper Snoop Dogg’s From the Streets to the Suites during the 30th anniversary of his debut album Doggystyle.

Throughout his 30-plus-year career, Snoop has left a lasting imprint on the future of hip-hop. From the streets of Long Beach, California, to becoming a global rap legend, the 51-year-old gets candid in Volume 36 of Words+Music, with his decision to pursue love and life over death and destruction.

The project was written and performed by Snoop, with direction from Angie Martinez, and produced in conjunction with The SpringHill Company. Listeners can expect impeccable storytelling with a touch of West Coast flavor only the legendary rapper could provide.

They can also expect live performances from some of Snoop’s classic hits, including “Nuthin’ but a ‘G ‘ Thang,” “Gin and Juice,” “Beautiful,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” and more.

Blavity has an exclusive clip from the series below, in which the rapper talks about working with LL Cool J.

In the audio series, Snoop also talks about paying respect to iconic rapper Slick Rick and his rendition of “La Di Da Di” and how the rapper changed hip-hop.

“I remade ‘La Di Da Di’ because ‘La Di Da Di’ was hip-hop,” he said. “It’s what hip-hop meant to me as a kid, and it inspired me so much to where I wanted the generation after me to know about it because they think I made that song,” Snoop said during the series, adding he wanted the new generation to learn about hip-hop history and the rappers that paved the way for him and other artists in the industry.

Snoop also talked about his viewpoint on East Coast vs. West Coast rap.

He explained, “As I become a man, I have to recognize that East Coast – West Coast is what you make it, so let me make it peace, let me make it love, let me put some energy on it that’s different. And I’m gonna stand on it, and I don’t give a f**k how many people don’t like me or feel like I’m weak or I’m soft. This is who the f**k I am.”

The California native revealed how he met producer and rapper Dr. Dre for the first time, despite knowing other family members, including his mom.

“I knew Dre’s mama before I knew him. Verna, beautiful woman. I knew his sister Shameka; I knew his brother Tyree before I knew him because they lived in North Long Beach, and they lived with Warren G’s father; Warren G lived with them, so I was in with them and didn’t know Dr. Dre. First time I met him was at Warren G’s; I think they had like a Thanksgiving party at his dad’s house,” Snoop said.

The project is now streaming on Audible.
