Rick Famuyiwa Things happen fast in da’ show biz.

So just after the news yesterday, reported by Tambay, that Ava DuVernay might be in
talks to direct Marvel’s long awaited “Black Panther” movie, comes news that
director Rick Famuyiwa is now possibly
in contention to direct "Black Panther" instead, while DuVernay
may now be a contender to direct “Captain Marvel,” scheduled for release in
November 2018 instead.

The news, which comes via Rope of Silicon (HERE), adds that: "… insiders tell The Wrap that Marvel is keen to hire an African-American director
for Black Panther and a female filmmaker for Captain Marvel. DuVernay checks
both those boxes and would be a very interesting choice."

Famuyiwa is
hot right now, thanks to the buzz around his latest film “Dope,” which was a smash hit at
Sundance in January, leading to a bidding war among distributors, and is now scheduled to be released
next month by Open Road.

But as Rope of Silicon
also states: "… in the case of DuVernay, though it seems very hard to
believe, [she] would be accepting a gig where the higher ups will exact so much control
over production."

Could be.

No
doubt more developments about this will be coming out as time goes on.
