The Puerto Rican-born model, Sofía Jirau became the first Victoria's Secret model with Down syndrome after joining 17 other women to launch the brand's new campaign, making history. Jirau is the second Puerto Rican model to appear in a Victoria's Secret campaign, following supermodel Joan Smalls.

Last week, Jirau, 24, announced on her Instagram account her participation in the brand's new campaign, the Love Cloud Collection, and thanked the company for seeing her as a "no limit" model.

"One day I dreamed of it, I worked on it and today it is a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret," Jirau said in Spanish. "I am the first Victoria's Secret model with Down syndrome! Thanks to all of you for always supporting me in my projects. Thanks to @victoriassecret for seeing me as a #NoLimits model and making me part of the Love Cloud Collection inclusion campaign. This is just the beginning; now it's formed! Inside and out there are no limits, Alavett!"

Jirau's modeling career began in 2019 in Puerto Rico — alongside her online store "Alavett," based on her favorite phrase, "I love it."

The Chief Creative Director of Victoria's Secret states that the campaign is a big step for the brand's growth and the new standard.

"Love Cloud Collection is a major moment in the brand's evolution," Martinez said. "From the cast of incredible women that bring the collection to life, to the incredible inclusive spirit on set, this campaign is an important part of the new Victoria's Secret standard we are creating."

According to her website, Jirau made her New York Fashion Week debut in February 2020, making her one of the few models with Down syndrome in the prestigious fashion event. Her NYFW debut was covered worldwide, including Vogue Mexico Revelist, People, Univision, etc.

"I am proud as one of the few models," Jirau said. "with Down syndrome who has managed to participate in the important fashion event."

Jirau revealed that the most important thing is showing people that there are no limits and hopes to inspire others to follow their dreams.

"For me, the most important thing about fulfilling my dreams is to show people around the world that there are no limits and to inspire them to pursue their own dreams," Jirau said. "This is why I always say 'Inside and out there are no limits' to motivate people to break through their self-imposed limitations."
