The semester is coming to a close, spring is in bloom, and you know what that means: the 2023 probate season has arrived.
New initiates of Black fraternities and sororities are having their probates, a staple in Black Greekdom. They are a celebration of membership in a new family that shares a sacred bond to follow the same mission of helping others and serving the community.
The Divine Nine, a collective unit of historically Black fraternities and sororities, have provided safe spaces and community for Black students since the early 1900s. These new member presentations showcase to family, friends and the greater campus the members’ commitment to the sorority or fraternity for a lifetime.

Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity at Bowie State University

The Glorious Epsilon Sigma Chapter at Bowie State captioned their Instagram post celebrating their seven “Sadistic UnQonquerable Hounds of Omega.” Decked out in purple, camo, and elaborate face coverings, comments quickly offered the new line their “qongrats.”
Zeta Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte

The motto of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc has been “achievement in every human endeavor” since 1911. Zeta Deltas at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte welcomed the “12 GOOD men” that made up their Spring ‘23 initiates to the family. The “12 GAUGE” posed in jean ensembles topped off with a red cap and classy black loafers.
Eta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Louisiana State University

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc is the first Black sorority, conceived in 1908. Vice President Kamala Harris and activist Coretta Scott King are notable members. Elegantly styled in forest green pants, black tees, bright pink hair scarves and reflective sunglasses, the LSU chapter shared a warm welcome to Instagram.
Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at Florida A&M University

The Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at Florida A&M, or BADST, welcomed their Spring ‘23 line T-65 with a fiery video slideshow of photos and videos of the new probates in a proper soror welcome. The girls shone in black and white ensembles with bright red leather gloves and white framed, red-tinted sunglasses.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the first Black Greek fraternity. The Alphas’ goal is to “promote brotherhood and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy for the communities they serve.” The Kappa Beta Chapter publicly announced its new members. The men in black were covered by full-face black and yellow headgear and vests painted with the Alpha Phi Alpha letters.

Chartered in 1979, the Lambda Eta Chapter at Arkansas State University promises to uphold the ideals of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.’s founders, to sponsor an international organization of leaders. The NF4MOUΣ MAB of the Lambda Eta Chapter at Arkansas State University included four new members to the line. The men dressed in varying outfits of blue and black as they held changing accessories per photo.

The tenacious women of the Theta Rho Chapter at Cleveland State University uphold the sorority’s beliefs of sisterhood, scholarship and service.
