A double shot of Forest Whitaker casting news this afternoon, starting with the “Star Wars” anthology feature “Rogue One,” to be directed by Gareth Edwards, which Whitaker is in talks to join the cast of – a cast that currently includes Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn.

The story for “Rogue One” will follow a group of rebel fighters and a plot steal the Death Star. 

No word yet on what role Whitaker is in talks to take.

"Rogue One" is set for a December 2016 release.

And secondly, Whitaker is also in talks to join the cast of the reboot of Dimension Films’ "The Crow" – a remake long in the works, that was first made public in 2008, when director Stephen Norrington announced that he planned to write and direct a "reinvention" of "The Crow," distinguishing between the original and his remake, saying in an interview: "Whereas Proyas’ original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style."

Much has likely changed since then, as the names of other directors have since been attached to the project, like Juan Carlos Fresnadillo; and several actors names have been said to be attached to star, or in talks, or rumored, like Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, Channing Tatum, Ryan Gosling and others.

Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media is backing the project this time around.

No word yet on what role Whitaker is in talks to play.

Until we know more about both of the above projects, catch Whitaker in Antoine Fuqua’s "Southpaw" later this summer. He was also previously attached to the adaptation of the best-selling novel "The Shack," to both direct and star in. 

Recently released on home video, Whitaker stars in French-Algerian filmmaker Rachid Bouchareb’s "Two Men in Town."
